About the Event
May is Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month, and a perfect opportunity to celebrate the contributions of the Asian community and bring awareness to recent and systemic issues. On May 23rd at 4:00 PM EDT, PROTESTRA will be presenting "Music in Action: Heritage Against Hate," a live in-person event featuring chamber and solo works composed and performed by API identifying musicians, a gallery show of original artwork, and a post-concert discussion hosted by Asian Musical Voices of America. Limited in-person tickets are available for purchase on Eventbrite, and a livestream option for $10 will be available through Kontomo, a new digital concert stage. Mansi Shah , founder and curator of Colors of Classical Music will host this event and guide the audience through a program of works by composers including Tōru Takemitsu, Chen Yi, Shruthi Rajasekar, and more. The concert will culminate in a panel discussion addressing many of the issues unearthed through the performances. During the event, a number of API identifying visual artists will display and sell their artwork in a gallery adjacent to the concert hall.
