About

PROTESTRA hosted this concert to honor the life and career of iconic United States Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and to rally the spirits of those who were grieving her.

“Remembering RBG” was the inaugural concert of our new series: Music in Action. Just as with our original 2017 #NoBan concert, the intent behind Music in Action is to hold “rapid response” concerts to react to current events as they unfold.

This concert was formatted as an "open mic night" for our musician friends and colleagues, serving as a platform for them to pay tribute to this advocate and role model for so many. We paid homage to RBG through music and galvanized people to take action in her memory. In between musical selections, we read famous quotes, oral arguments, opinions, and dissents by RBG, as well as share voting information and action items for viewers.

Many of us felt deeply affected by Justice Ginsburg's sudden passing. We mourned the loss of a devoted classical music and opera fan, and we remain indebted to her for her tireless advocacy for women’s rights and equality.

Charities

While we didn't collect donations for this event, we highlighted four charities that advocate and fight for gender justice and the rule of law in the U.S. and worldwide: Her Justice, the National Women’s Law Center, the American Civil Liberties Union (specifically the Women’s Rights Project, founded by Ruth Bader Ginsburg), and the World Justice Project
